Kim Jong-kook has announced that he’s getting married, revealing the news in a handwritten letter posted to his official fan café on August 18. In the note, the beloved singer–TV star let fans know directly, writing, “I am getting married,” while thanking them for years of support.

The announcement, in his own words

In the letter, Kim admitted he felt more nervous than expected putting pen to paper, and said he knew the news might come as a surprise. He added that this year marks his 30th debut anniversary and asked fans to continue cheering him on as he enters a new chapter.

“Hello, this is Kim Jong Kook. I knew that I would be writing this letter and posting about it someday, but now that it’s happening, I am much more nervous than I had ever imagined. I am writing this post to share the news with my fans, who have always trusted, supported, and stayed by my side. I am getting married.

I have hinted at it a little bit, but I know that many people might still be shocked by the news. I knew I should have been working on my album for my 30th debut anniversary, but it seems like I was working on meeting my partner. But I hope you all can still congratulate and support me. I know it’s so late, but better late than never, right? I will work hard to live well. The ceremony will be held soon in a small venue with just close friends and family.

Because of my fans, I can get married and experience a new challenge in life. I will become a Kim Jong Kook who works even harder. Thank you.”

Kim did not reveal his fiancée’s identity or a specific wedding date. He told fans the ceremony will be held “soon,” and will be kept small and private with only family, relatives, and a few close acquaintances. His agency, Turbo JK Company, called it a meaningful new start in his milestone year and asked the public for warm congratulations.

Why now: a milestone year

Alongside the personal news, Kim is preparing a 30th-anniversary commemorative album and a concert slated for October 2025—evidence he plans to stay active professionally even as he marries.

A star with staying power

Debuting with Turbo in 1995 before building a solo career and becoming a cornerstone of Running Man, Kim has remained one of Korea’s most recognizable entertainers. Local media reports on August 18 list him as 49 this year, underscoring how rare and celebratory this moment is for a veteran star who’s grown up alongside his audience.

What fans can expect

For now, details remain intentionally sparse. Kim has asked for understanding as he and his partner keep things low-key. As more is officially shared—whether wedding timing or anniversary events—expect updates through his agency and fan café first.

Congratulations to Kim Jong-kook—and to the fans who’ve waited with him for this day.
